The staff works hard but the business itself isn't great. I've been here twice in the past year and both times I left disappointed.

First time, I ordered fish and chips, and the fish was fish sticks rather than a fried fillet like I expected, while the quantity of fries was generous but they were totally unsalted and a little undercooked.

Today, I ordered a souvlaki wrap from the cashier, then waited 15 minutes before I realized he hadn't passed my order to the cooks. No signs around to indicate I should tell the cooks my order, maybe he forgot. I ended up waiting 30 minutes for what amounted to an average wrap.

I've been going to Bagel Buoy for many years and I always get the same thing when I go there (and every other bagel place for that matter): 5 eggs with cheddar cheese and bacon on a plate. They prepare the food very well; the eggs are nicely colored and well scrambled, and the bacon tends to be evenly cooked and edible.

While my order remains consistent, the prices they charge me are anything but that, unfortunately. Some days the meal has been as low as $5.99, while other times it's been over $9.00. Once it was about $15.00 because they thought I wanted the bacon as a separate order from the eggs instead of combining them into one meal. I told them what I meant, but I didn't bother making an issue out of it since I was hungry and in desperate need of bacon. Sure, it's a custom order, meaning it's not a specific menu item, but it would be nice if the price was at least in the same ballpark each time.

The food is good, and they don't seem to skimp out on the eggs (one place tried to pass off three eggs as five, hoping I wouldn't notice). It's a little tough for me to comment on the prices here since I'm always charged differently for my order, but the ready-made food (egg salad, chicken salad, etc.), is priced higher than average. I think it's about $11 for a pound of chicken salad, while I've seen it for $6 or $7 elsewhere.

Across my visits, I've noticed an interesting range of personalities that work there. Some of the people are bright and seemingly happy, while others have an unchanging expression of indifference and displeasure. It's a pretty neutral mix overall.

They also have a convenient "text your order" service, which allows you to place orders while you're trespassing on rich strangers' yachts. You still have to go there to pick up your food, but at least you can avoid some of the horrendously long lines during the summer.

Overall, Bagel Buoy is a good place to go when you need some reliable breakfast foods and/or lunch. Just beware of ordering custom meals as you'll likely be shocked and confused when you're at the checkout register.
